Solid Phase Micro-Extraction (SPME)
Solid Phase Micro-Extraction (SPME)

Solid phase micro-extraction is a very effective way of automated sample preparation

Solid phase micro-extraction is the highly popular solventless and a true green analysis extraction technique. Either from a sample headspace or from immersion into an aqueous sample. A rich library of applications has been developed during already 25 years of use in trace analysis laboratories.

  • The PAL System offers the traditional SPME Fibers as well as the newly developed and more sensitive SPME Arrow technique.

  • The SPME Arrow is unbreakable, provides a much higher sorbent volume and surface. Applications using the Arrow are faster and more sensitive.

  • Both techniques use an Agitator for incubation, the Arrow also a Heatexer unit for powerful vial shaking.

  • On-fiber derivatization for polar analytes in GC analysis is optionally integrated in the automated workflows.

  • Immersion sampling and on-fiber derivatization for polar analytes for GC and LC analysis is optionally intergrated in the automated workflows.

  • Sampling with SPME only requires small sample volumes of few grams or milliliters of sample.

  • Online analysis is established using flow cells.

Flavor and Off-Flavor Analysis using Solid Phase Microextraction

Solid Phase Micro-Extraction (SPME) is widely used for chemical analysis of foods, beverages and food contact materials. As an automated technique, the SPME applications are selected for their simplicity, throughput and extraction efficiency.  As a solvent-free extraction, it is gains even more importance today as a green analytic technique. Besides the traditional SPME Fiber, the new SPME Arrow is enhancing trace level sensitivity at high mechanical robustness. With these features, this presentation will give insight on SPME analysis in coffee, wine and off-flavors.
